Diwali 2027 in Gujarat: Dates, Chopda Pujan and New Year
Diwali (દિવાળી) falls on Friday, 29 October 2027. In Gujarat, the celebration brings together Lakshmi worship, Chopda Pujan, lamps, family visits and preparations for the Gujarati New Year. Bestu Varas follows on Saturday, 30 October, beginning Vikram Samvat 2084.

Diwali week dates for 2027
Dhanteras is on 27 October, followed by Kali Chaudas on 28 October and Diwali on 29 October. Gujarati New Year and Govardhan Puja fall on 30 October, and Bhai Bij is on 31 October. Keep the five dates together when arranging visits and family meals.
Diwali evening and Lakshmi Puja
Lighting diyas is one of the most familiar Diwali traditions. Families clean and decorate their homes, make rangoli near the entrance and gather for Lakshmi Puja. The festival’s message of light overcoming darkness gives meaning to the lamps beyond their decoration.
Prepare the prayer area and lamp holders before the evening. Set aside the flowers, offerings and aarti items that your family normally uses. Keeping everything in one place makes it easier for the whole household to sit together for the prayers.
What is Chopda Pujan?
Chopda Pujan (ચોપડા પૂજન) is the worship associated with account books and business records. In Gujarati business families, it is a meaningful part of the Diwali period, joining the work of the year with prayers for wisdom and prosperity.
The practice also gives younger family members a chance to understand why an account book is placed with the prayer arrangement. The focus is on gratitude and a thoughtful beginning, rather than treating the occasion only as a time for purchases.
Gujarati New Year and Bestu Varas
Bestu Varas (બેસતું વર્ષ) on 30 October begins the new Gujarati year, Vikram Samvat 2084. Families visit relatives, seek elders’ blessings and exchange New Year greetings such as “Saal Mubarak”. The morning has its own place in the celebration, separate from Diwali night.
Govardhan Puja and Annakut are also associated with this date. If you plan to attend an Annakut darshan, check the programme of the particular temple. Leave room in your day for both the visit and time with relatives.
Prepare for visitors and Bhai Bij
Arrange the cleaning, food preparation and gift packing before the busiest days. Set aside separate times for Diwali prayers, New Year visits and Bhai Bij so that one gathering does not push out another. Confirm plans with relatives before making a long journey.
Keep diyas on a firm surface away from curtains and the walking path. Leave entrances clear when guests arrive. For Bhai Bij on 31 October, a simple meal and an unhurried visit can make the occasion comfortable for brothers, sisters and the rest of the family.
